My new blogging assignment

I haven't written a blog post for a while due to extreme work pressures. I've had many ideas for a post, but no time to do so.

I received an invitation from David and Elizabeth Edelman of Diabetes Daily to start a blog over there. This seemed like a great opportunity, so I've accepted.

For now, I'll post in both places with different articles and topics. Eventually I'll have to decide how best to handle it.

I'm extremely happy to be joining David, Elizabeth and Amylia on the Diabetes Daily team and I look forward to writing more about diabetes technology and challenges.

Are you thinking about NaBloPoMo?

Call me crazy, but I've decided to participate in NaBloPoMo.

What does this mean for you?

I'll be posting something every day in the month of November. I'm hoping that I can do this without too much of a problem because I'm already in the Diabetes365 project and I'm posting almost every day already. But I'll also be visiting in Ireland over Thanksgiving, so there'll be some Irish posts around then.

If you're interested in saying hi during my three days in Ireland, I'll be staying in Dundrum directly south of Dublin and spending time with family in Bray, County Wicklow.

If you're feeling courageous about writing why not get involved in NaBloPoMo? It's only 30 blog posts!

I've even created a NaBloPoMo diabetes bloggers group.

Diabetes and Pastry

The Diabetes365 project is really growing fast. We now have over 100 photos and more are being added every day.

One of the photographers is Dae and thanks to her blog I came across what may be the best blog for those of us who still like to eat pastry. (Because unfortunately my love of good food didn't disappear when I got diabetes.)

Yes folks, it's the Diabetic Pastry Chef. With lots of yummy sounding recipes like Maraschino Cherry Pound Cake and Blueberry Pumpkin Bread.

I've taken several baking classes over the years and I really love to make pies, cookies and bread. Generally I let the children eat most of it because there's too many carbs there.

But maybe, thanks to the Diabetic Pastry Chef, I can finally bake some things that are okay for me to eat.

Hope you'll consider voting for me

My diabetes blog has been nominated for Best Health Blog on Bloggers Choice.

I know that there are many other blogs that belong in this category. But the nice thing is that you can vote for more than one of them. While you're considering all your choices, please consider voting for mine. Think of it as a practice run for 2008!

And thanks for continuing to read here.

Note: Some days are better than others. I've updated this post a few time because I kept pointing the URLs to the wrong place to vote. Some of them pointed you to the voting location for the blog, Schuyler's Monster. I couldn't correct this post again without pointing out Rob's blog. It's well worth reading, and voting for.

Happy blogiversary to me

Today it's been a year since I started posting on this blog.

This is my 137th post since then. I want to use it to let you know what I'm trying to do with my blog.

If you're a regular reader you can hopefully tell that I care a lot about technology and user experience. I'm blessed that my regular job is as a software architect. On the job I get to look at tools and techniques that can help improve the user experience in software.

On this blog I look at software and technology for diabetes, what it's like and how it might be improved. Along the way I hope to influence device and software makers so they think about user experience in the early stages of design and development for new diabetes technology.

In the last year I've learned a lot from your comments and suggestions. I appreciate these more than I can say. I plan to be blogging actively a year from now. If I'm doing a lousy job, let me know.

And thanks for support and friendship to my many diabetes friends from TuDiabetes and the Diabetes OC.
