OneTouch Ultra Test Strips recall - Lot 2829235

I've seen this on the blogosphere, but just in case you've missed it.

Lifescan has announced a recall on 25-count boxes of OneTouch Ultra blood glucose test strips with a lot number of 2829235. Boxes with 50 or 100 strips are not affected. And only boxes with the lot number are of concern. The lot number is printed on the outside of the box and on the label of each test strip vial.

According to LifeScan "a very small number of vials in this lot many contain strips that could product inaccurately low (my emphasis) blood glucose test results".

If you have any of these packages you can contact LifeScan at 1-866-247-1281 to get replacement strips. While waiting for replacements they advise "do not use the OneTouch Ultra Test Strips from lot number 2829235".

I received two copies of the recall notice via US Mail. Both were dated September 19, 2008. The first, I received October 24 or 25; the second, I received November 10. When I inquired about the long lag between the letter's date and my receipt thereof, I got the following response:

"In regards to the date of the letter, please note that the letter date corresponds with the official recall start date of September 19, 2008. Our intent was to inform all users and distributors of OneTouch Ultra Test Strips of the potential product issue. In addition, press releases at www.lifescan.com were released on September 29, 2008. Should you ever question the quality of your test strips, please contact our Customer Service Department for immediate assistance."

Which still doesn't explain more than a month's delay between the recall and my receipt of that information via first-class, pre-sorted, postage paid (by permit) mail.

That's strange. The reason I posted this was because I received the recall notice in yesterday's mail, almost a full month after your second one!

In the end, more of this information is being provided online and I suspect more people in the future will read these kind of recalls in the blogosphere.
