Dexcom to work with Animas
Recently it was Dexcom and OmniPod, now it's Dexcom and Animas.Today the two companies announced that they will work together to integrate Dexcom continuous glucose monitoring into Animas insulin pumps.
"The new technology will enable the Animas® pump to receive glucose readings and display this information on the pump’s color screen. Users will have access to real-time glucose readings and trending in addition to receiving alerts for low and high glucose readings. Having real-time readings displayed on the pump screen will not only allow users to make more timely adjustments to their insulin delivery – it will eliminate a separate receiver, reducing the amount of equipment required to use CGM and the pump system."According to the news report this should be available in 2009 or early 2010. And again it's a non-exclusive agreement, leaving Dexcom free to work with other pump makers.

Good news for me!!
this is great!!
This Is Great!!
great news, since I didn't want to switch from my waterproof animas pump! yay!
Bernard, my rep told me today that very soon you will be able to use other meters, such as the Freestyle (that's my preference) to calibrate the Dexcom. I'm not a fan of the Ultra meters.
Intresting. Honestly, as much as I love my MiniMed, had Animas been as far along technology wise when I got a pump, I probably would have gone with the Animas. I like their design and the food catalog.
But Minimed was so close to integrated CGMS when I got my pump that I couldn't pass it up. I guess it really didn't matter anyway since my insurance company is dragging their feet about approving my CGMS anyway. Oh well.
YEEEPEE!!!!
It keeps getting better and better, amigo.
Wow, that's really wonderful. We're not pumping yet, because Daniel is not ready to have stuff attached to him all the time. But the more integrated all these things get, the easier it will be. Until we get that CURE!
