Diabetes365 day 9 Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - Fire drill

I was sitting at my desk working this morning and the fire alarms went off! What a racket!

Diabetes365 day 9 Oct. 16th 2007 - Fire Alarm

Whenever there's a fire alarm at work the first thing I reach for is my diabetes supplies. After that I'll take my camera and personal laptop, but those are a distance second in importance.

There's nothing worse than being stuck in an unusual situation without a means of testing my blood sugar and correcting it if it's low. That's why the diabetes supplies are so essential. If there was a real alarm and we were outside for more than 10 minutes those supplies might make the difference between a single alarm and two!

Over my lifetime with diabetes I've taken many ambulance rides as a result of severe low blood sugars (hypoglycemia). It's never pleasant waking up in a strange place and not knowing how you got there. So diabetes supplies are essential.

Yet another thing to think about because of diabetes. (And another reason why you're not likely to see me on a future episode of Survivor).

I'm really enjoying your diabetes365 project. It's all about the little things, that sometimes aren't so little. Well done.

BTW- During fire alarms, I always grab my keys, in case the opportunity to leave presents itself.

Bernard,
I always tell my friends that I have diabetes, so that's the reason that I won't be on Survivor! Funny to see you write the same thing.
I've been having fun looking at your pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Fire alarm! Yikes...what a way to start off the day. I still think a fire alarm is better than waking up with high blood sugar, though.

I guess I'm very lucky, never having had an ambulance ride or hospitalization for a hypo. The more I read on the blogs of t1's, the more common it seems.

I always take my diabetic supplies first, too, as it's quite disconcerting to be without them.
Thanks for the photo. :)

I was JUST thinking about that the other day, if it was possible for someone with diabetes to compete in Survivor.

maybe they should do some of these reality shows with a diabetes spin for a season. imagine survivor with a cast of all people with diabetes. They'd have to provide the testing supplies and insulin for the duration, but everything else could remain the same.

I guess Hypos might be a problem with the scarcity of food. But at least America will finally see the day to day effects of diabetes.

Well Bernard, at least you had a nice sunny day to spend some time outside!
I too really like everyone's pictures in the project. Since you already gave credit to the chickens, I'm now waiting to see how your gonna work the goats in.
