Chinese Moon Festival

Moon Festival 2007

Last night we had a picnic at a local park with a lot of friends from Families with Children from China New England. We shared stories about our visits to China, admired all our collective children and ate some delicious moon cakes.

Then it was off to the nearby pond where we listened to the story of Houyi and his wife Chang Er who became the moon goddess.

And then the children got to light some small candles and set them afloat in the lake. We watched them and the beautiful full moon rising over the lake.

What a wonderful way to spend an evening.

Sorry, that was me.
Bernard, you are fortunate to have such a wonderful family (and, of course, they to have you).
My little niece continues to open our hearts in the most amazing ways. I can't remember what our family was like without her.

Lovely. I am a little disappointed that here in Taiwan no one really did anything for the Moon Festival. I did eat some flaky mooncakes, which are pretty good, but there was no celebration. I did get a nice view of the full moon, but that's where it ends.

Beautiful photo.

I sometimes think that Chinese who live overseas are more traditional than the Chinese living on the mainland or in Taiwan. BTW, please consider adding me to your blogroll. I'm glad another d-lifer was out celebrating the Chinese Moon Festival. :)

That is great to have days and times like that. And even better that we do not take times like that for granted.
