Some things for Monday
There's a little trickle of comment spam coming in here, so I've re-enabled Captcha for right now. If you're a potential spammer, please be aware that you're wasting your time. I will delete fake comments that are really links for product sites.I saw a great video demanding a cure on YouTube. You can watch it below.
It would be great to get pictures of adults with Type 1 diabetes and make a video out of that. Maybe I'll do that sometime in the future.
There's an interesting article in the New York Times this morning Looking Past Blood Sugar to Survive With Diabetes. The article talks about other things, besides blood sugar control, that are important for people with diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2)
Mr. Smith thought his biggest risk from diabetes was blindness or amputations. He never thought about heart disease and had no idea how important it was to control cholesterol levels and blood pressure. He said his doctor had not advised him to take a cholesterol-lowering or blood pressure drug and he did not think he needed them. This is also the topic of the excellent book Know Your Numbers, Outlive Your Diabetes that was co-authored by Dr. Richard Jackson of Joslin and our own d-blogger Amy Tenderich.
Read the NYT article. If you agree with what it's saying think about getting the Know Your Numbers book. It's very readable and really helps you focus on the most important things (A1C, Blood Pressure, Lipids, Microalbumin, Eyes) for your diabetes. I liked this book a lot.

waovdonxAnother really good & extremely helpful book you may want to read is Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution by Dr. Richard Bernstein.
Check it out - it talks about things that are never mentioned in the media or by most doctors. He's a T1 diabetic who has reversed symptoms & lived healthy for 74 years!
I think we've all written about that article today!
These YouTube videos are going to kill me.
delay in responding...but thank you for showcasing our video! As a side note, a few of the kids in the video are also from Mass. :) We had fun putting it together - didn't mean to exclude the adults, it was just that the group I belong to is parents with kids with type1, so no adults present. We will be doing another video sometime in the future so I will send the word out.
