Poll - what are your diabetes devices?

I'm curious about what you're using to manage your diabetes.

So here are my questions.

1. What type of diabetes do you have?
2. What blood glucose meter(s) do you use?
3. If you use an insulin pump, what is the make and model?
4. If you have a Continuous Glucose Monitor, what make?
5. If you have a computer(s) at home, is it Windows or Mac?

I'd like to get as many answers as possible. So please forward these to others if you can.

If you'd like to do a completely different poll, check out the questions that Curious Girl is asking.

Update:
I just realized I should answer my own questions.
1. Type 1, 34+ years.
2. OneTouch Ultra, recently OneTouch UltraSmart.
3. Minimed 512. Can't wait to change this in September.
4. Dexcom as of 3 weeks ago.
5. Several Windows XP desktops and laptops.

Dexcom
Lantus & Novolog

If I had discovered your blog sooner I could have warned you about the cruddy Dexcom software.

It's just one of my minor but fixable gripes with Dexcom.

All they had to do is create an XML or even a raw text file for data. Than you could do whatever you wanted with whatever graphing, spreadsheet, database, etc...

Dumb, really really dumb.

Fixed 400 on the Y axis, stupid.
Forcing the customer to use PC and Word, unexcusable.

Why is the synch cable from the OneTouch to receiver 6ft long? 6 inches would be more than plenty. assinine

Hi Bernard,

1. I have Type 1 diabetes, diagnosed in my twenties
2. I use and love the Accu-Chek Compact Plus; it comes in handy while running and sweating to not touch a strip. On short runs I can just hold it right in my hand and not have to ware a pak. I have a number of Lifescan meters but I do not use them.
3. Pumcy, my beloved insulin pump is an Animas 1200, I have been told I will be getting an upgrade to the Animas 2020 sometime before the fall.
4. No continuous Glucose Monitor yet.
5. I have a windows computer

I am curious too, are you thinking of writing a software? Hmmmmmmmmm

That would be great,
Adjoa

Oooh... Thanks for the link Bernard - I'll link my blog to yours as soonn as I'm done answering. :)

1. What type of diabetes do you have? Type 1

2. What blood glucose meter(s) do you use? Depends - either an Ascencia Contour or a One Touch Ultra. I have also tried an Accuchek Compac - which I hated.

3. If you use an insulin pump, what is the make and model?
Currently, a Deltec Cozmo - 1700. But I've asked for the upgrade & I'm looking forward to receiving my brand new Animas 2020 next week. I'm fickle, it's bad.

4. If you have a Continuous Glucose Monitor, what make?
I don't think I'd ever get one of these. I'm obsessive enough as it is. I guess if I had to choose, I'd pick the DexCom because I like all of the things I've heard about it better than the things I've heard about other systems. I guess I'd really need to do more research though.

5. If you have a computer(s) at home, is it Windows or Mac?
Windows.

I use a one touch ultra smart. I don’t use any of the extra features. The copay is zero with my insurance, they bent my arm practically backwards to choose this one!

3. If you use an insulin pump, what is the make and model?
I have a minimed 515

4. If you have a Continuous Glucose Monitor, what make?
I’m in the process of getting a Minimed Mini-Link.

5. If you have a computer(s) at home, is it Windows or Mac?
Windows, macs are a tad too spendy for me

Why are you not using C-Peptide in addition to the Insulin you are taking for the Good Management of your Diabetes?

Hi Bernard. I will answer your question about C-Peptide here.
When you become deficient in Insulin, you also become deficient in Amylin as well as C-Peptide. As you are aware C-Peptide can be used as a Marker to determine the availability of Insulin, but C-Peptide has other vital uses that those w/T1DM should be made aware of. They are the following:
Clinical studies show that C-peptide administration in type 1 diabetes patients, who lack the peptide, results in amelioration of diabetes-induced renal and nerve dysfunction.
Patients with type 1 diabetes, who continue to maintain a small endogenous beta cell activity, are less prone to develop long-term complications and have fewer episodes of hypoglycemia than those who become totally C-peptide deficient [1, 2].C-peptide in replacement doses reduces glomerular hyper-filtration, diminishes urinary albumin excretion and retards or reverses renal structural abnormalities in type 1 diabetes. Further examination of the glomeruli revealed that it was primarily the hypertrophy of the mesangial matrix that was inhibited by C-peptide [8].
Neurological impairment score and vibration perception also improved in the C-peptide treated group. Changes in glycaemic control could not account for the improved nerve function.
In streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats receiving C-peptide from 6 to 8 weeks after induction of diabetes, a significant increase in both sensory (saphenous) and motor (sciatic) NCV was seen [13]; Axoglial dysjunction and paranodal demyelination improved significantly, axonal degeneration decreased and there was a fourfold increase in nerve fiber regeneration [12].C-peptide in replacement doses stimulates nerve Na+/K+- ATPase activity, increases endoneurial blood flow and stimulates neurotrophic factors, resulting in improved NCV and prevention or reversal of nerve structural change.
Circulatory responses to C-peptide Administration of C-peptide in type 1 diabetes patients results in increased blood flow in several tissues. There is also augmented skin capillary blood cell velocity and redistribution of blood flow to nutritive capillaries following C-peptide administration [19]C-peptide has also been found to mimic the effects of insulin in muscle cells [32]. Cellular end effects eNOS C-peptide elicits release of NO in endothelial cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner [30]. The in vitro observations are consistent with the finding that C-peptide administration to type 1 patients and animal models of type 1 diabetes results in concentration-dependent increases in blood flow in several tissues, and suggest that C-peptide replacement in type 1 diabetes improves the diabetes-induced endothelial dysfunction [35].
